Have some Fun with HAPPY FEET

"Happy Feet" is a 2006 American-Australian computer-animated comedy-drama film with music, directed and co-written by George Miller. It was produced at Sydney-based visual effects and animation studio Animal Logic for Warner Bros., Village Roadshow Pictures and Kingdom Feature Productions and was released in North America on November 17, 2006. It is the first animated feature film produced by Kennedy Miller in association with visual effects/design company Animal Logic. Though primarily an animated film, "Happy Feet" does incorporate live action humans in certain scenes. The film was simultaneously released in both conventional theatres and in IMAX 2D format. The studio had hinted that a future IMAX 3D release was a possibility. Unfortunately, that was not possible because Warner Bros., the film’s production company, was on too tight of a budget to release "Happy Feet" in IMAX digital 3D. Their previous release of "The Ant Bully" in IMAX digital 3D had cost the company a big amount of money, so they did not have too much to spare for "Happy Feet". "Happy Feet" won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and was nominated for the Annie Award for Best Animated Feature. The film was dedicated in memory of Nick Enright, Michael Jonson, Robby McNeilly Green, and Steve Irwin. Set in an Antarctic emperor penguin colony, the film established that every penguin must make a unique song called a "heartsong" to attract a mate. If the female likes the male and his song, and if it fits with the female's and helps complete it, the two penguins mate. This is based in fact, since emperor couples court each other and recognize one another by their unique calls. One penguin named Norma Jean (voiced by Nicole Kidman) sings the song "Kiss", whereupon a male penguin named Memphis (voiced by Hugh Jackman) sings "Heartbreak Hotel". Norma Jean chooses him as her mate. They couple and Norma Jean lays an egg. The egg is left in Memphis's care while Norma Jean and the other females leave to fish for several weeks. While the males are struggling through the harsh winter, Memphis drops the egg, briefly exposing it to the freezing Antarctic temperatures. The resulting chick - the film's protagonist, Mumble (voiced by Elizabeth Daily) - has blue eyes, ever-lasting down feathers, a late hatch and a terrible singing voice. However, Mumble has a talent that none of the other penguins had ever seen before: tap dancing. This ability, however, is frowned upon by the colony's elders, who do not tolerate deviance of any kind. As a result, Mumble is ostracized throughout his childhood, with only his mother and his best friend Gloria (voiced by Alyssa Shafer) to turn to for compassion. One day Mumble wanders into a secluded area, where he is free to be himself and dance. But Mumble is interrupted when the Boss Skua (voiced by Anthony LaPaglia) and his posse Dino (voiced by Danny Mann), Frankie (voiced by Michael Cornacchia), and Vinnie (voiced by Mark Klastorin) fly down and plan to consume the dancing baby penguin. Mumble stalls by asking the leader of the pack about a yellow band that is attached to his right ankle. The Boss Skua tells Mumble that he had gotten abducted by "aliens"; the result leaving him with the mysterious yellow band. The "aliens" the Skuas bird speaks of are actually human beings. Mumble narrowly escapes the hungry birds by falling into a small crevice. Mumble grows into an adult (voiced by Elijah Wood), still half-covered in fluffy down. Mumble's class is graduating, and although Mumble has not graduated, he joins them on their first unaccompanied trip into the ocean. His class ends their day by partying on an iceberg. Mumble constantly interrupts the singing party and is forced to enjoy the party on a small, separate iceberg. Mumble dozes off and wakes to find himself alone; his class gone. A hungry leopard seal (voiced by Roger Rose) chases him off the small iceberg, and the penguin finds himself far from his home and within the carefree colony of adelie penguins. These adelie penguins are small in stature, but fiercely loyal to those they call friends. He quickly befriends a small group of bachelors who form a club of sorts called the Amigos: the leader, Ramon (voiced by Robin Williams), the brothers Raul (voiced by Lombardo Boyar) and Nestor (voiced by Carlos Alazraqui), and twin brothers Rinaldo (voiced by Jeffrey Garcia) and Lombardo (voiced by Johnny A. Sanchez). The Amigos quickly embrace Mumble's dance moves and assimilate him into their misfit group. Mumble's joy at finding acceptance is cut short when he accidentally starts an avalanche with the Amigos and causes a hidden human excavator to tumble out from a glacier. Mumble catches a glimpse of this mysterious machine and is intrigued. Driven by curiosity, he sets out to find the "aliens" responsible for the machine. In Mumble's old home, it is mating season, and Gloria (voiced by Brittany Murphy) is the center of attention. Although she is surrounded by a large horde of suitors including Seymour (voiced by Fat Joe), none of them or their heartsongs interest her whatsoever. At this point, Ramon stands behind a newly-arrived Mumble and sings a Spanish version of "My Way". Gloria however isn't fooled, for she knows Mumble can't sing. She notices Ramon behind Mumble and shoves him away to reveal the little penguin. Goria becomes angry and turns her back on Mumble. Mumble tries to explain himself, saying that the front was the best he can offer. But it's no use, Mumble clearly has no heartsong, and Gloria continues towards the other males visibly distraught at Mumbles apparent fate to live life alone. As a last resort, Mumble tries to persuade her to sing along to his tapping rhythm. Gloria is reluctant at first but, because of her own latent affectionate feelings for him, she complies. She finds to her joy that Mumble's rhythm fits with her melody just as a heartsong would. As Mumble's beat speeds up, Gloria finds the chorus to her heartsong, and realizes it's "Boogie Wonderland", a dance song. Overcome with happiness that they can now be mates, the pair begin dancing, along with the other penguins. Noah the elder (voiced by Hugo Weaving), sees the lack of fish as punishment from the Great 'Guin, their god, for Mumble's dancing. Mumble tries to explain about the mysterious "aliens" he had heard about and that they are the cause of the scarceness of fish, but the only two penguins that believe him are his mother and Gloria. Noah exiles Mumble from the colony as a result of his strange ways and theories. Before Mumble leaves, he vows that he will find the real cause of the famine. He travels across vast territories with the Amigos and Lovelace (voiced by Robin Williams), a self-worshiping rockhopper. Gloria tries to help him but Mumble, out of fear for her safety, does whatever it takes to get rid of her - namely, insulting her singing talents. The group treks onward, traveling under harsh conditions. During their journey, they meet a group of elephant seals named Nev (voiced by Nicholas McKay), Kev (voiced by Tiriel Mora), Trev (voiced by Steve Irwin), and Barry (voiced by Richard Carter) who warn them of "Annihilators", who are presumably the same "aliens" Mumble seeks. After narrowly escaping from two killer whales, the penguins finally come face to face with a legion of huge commercial trawlers, all laden with fish caught around the Antarctic coast. Mumble follows after them, leaving his friends behind to bear testament to his legacy. After swimming and being tossed around by sea currents, Mumble ends up in a penguin exhibit at a marine park (closely resembling the Penguin Encounter at SeaWorld). He fervently tries to communicate with the "aliens" that surround him. When his pleas fail, Mumble nearly succumbs to madness after three months of confinement in the sterile glass prison. When a child taps on the glass wall one day, Mumble is woken from his stupor and dances in response, whereupon the child appears to run away. He becomes disappointed until she comes back with her mother. Soon, a large crowd gathers around the exhibit, taking pictures and telling their friends of this marvel. He is released back into the wild, now with more adult feathers and a tracking device strapped to his back. He leads the humans home to his native colony. The other penguins are skeptical at first, but when Gloria notices the beeping tracking device, they realized that this was absolute proof that the “aliens” truly did exist. They were also aware that they were all wrong to judge Mumble on his theories and his dancing than actually listen to his reason. Now convinced, the penguins (along with the once-stubborn elders) once again dance alongside Mumble in hopes of getting the humans' attention. Soon, a research team arrives and films the penguins dancing, and the humans begin to dance along with the rhythm. They bring this footage back to the human world. Different governments debate what to make of this footage and a worldwide debate ensues. They soon realize that they are overfishing the Antarctic waters, and conclude that perhaps the penguins were trying to communicate that to them. Antarctic fishing is banned, and the fish population recovers. At this, the Emperor Penguins and the Amigos dance and celebrate their triumph. A dancing baby penguin seen at the end is implied to be the child of Mumble and Gloria. In the credits, the characters reunite to dance for the final number "Song of the Heart".

TAKE THAT

Take That are a BRIT Award-winning English pop rock band consisting of members Gary Barlow, Howard Donald, Jason Orange and Mark Owen. Barlow is the group's main songwriter. All of them perform primarily on vocals though each have some instrumental talent/song-writing capability. The band achieved major success in the early to mid 1990s as a five person boyband act, with Robbie Williams. A reformed four man version of the band have achieved new success without Williams since 2005. Formed in Manchester in 1990, Take That sold more than 25 million records between 1991–96. Take That's dance-oriented pop tunes and soulful ballads dominated the UK charts in the first half of the 1990s, spawning two of the best selling albums of the decade with "Everything Changes" (which was nominated for the 1994 Mercury Prize) and "Greatest Hits" 1996, and according to 'Allmusic', "at this time were giant superstars in Europe with the main question about them not being about whether they could get a hit single, but how many and which would make it to number one". The band split up in 1996, but after a 2005 documentary and the release of a new greatest hits album, they officially announced a 2006 reunion tour around the United Kingdom, entitled The Ultimate Tour. On 9 May 2006, it was announced that Take That were set to record their first studio album "Beautiful World" in over 10 years. The band have released a second post-reunion studio album entitled "The Circus" and have completed their 'Circus' Tour 2009. In 1989, Nigel Martin-Smith sought to create a British male vocal singing group. Having seen the success and fame of what was the nascent concept of boybands following the meteoric rise of the "New Kids On The Block" in the United States and United Kingdom, he realized there was no such contemporary group in the United Kingdom. Martin-Smith's vision, however, was more teen-oriented than the clean-cut image that the "New Kids On The Block" sported in the media. Take That's first TV appearance was on "The Hitman & Her" in 1990, where they performed the unreleased song "Love". They also appeared on "The Hitman & Her" at this time performing "Waiting Around", which would be come the B Side for the first single, "Do What You Like". "Promises" and "Once You've Tasted Love" were also released as singles but were minor hits in the UK. The band's breakthrough single was a cover of the 1970s Tavares hit "It Only Takes A Minute", which peaked at number 7 on the UK Singles Chart. This success was followed by the track "I Found Heaven", then by the first Barlow ballad "A Million Love Songs" - both top 20 hits. Their cover of the Barry Manilow disco hit "Could It Be Magic" gave them their biggest hit to date, peaking at number 3 in the UK. Their first album, "Take That & Party", was released in 1992, and included all the hit singles to date. 1993 saw the release of "Everything Changes", based on Barlow's original material. It spawned four UK number one singles – their first number one "Pray", "Relight My Fire", "Babe" (beaten to the Christmas number one by Mr Blobby), and the title track Everything Changes. The fifth single Love Ain't Here Anymore reached number three on the UK charts. "Everything Changes" saw the band gain international success, but it failed to crack the US market where an exclusive remix "Love Ain't Here Anymore" (U.S. Version) gained little success. However, by 1994, the band had become radio and television stars across Europe and Asia. However, it was not until 1995 that the band would do their first World Tour. It was during the years 1993–95 that the band fronted scores of magazine covers ranging from 'Smash Hits' to 'GQ', becoming mass merchandised on all sorts of paraphernalia ranging from picture books, to posters, stickers, their own dolls, jewellery, caps, T-shirts, toothbrushes and even had their own annuals released. The band had also developed a large female teenage fanbase at the time. During this time, they performed at numerous music awards shows like the Brit Awards or Top of the Pops, also winning the 'Best Live Act' award in 1995 at the MTV Europe Music Awards. By the time the band's 1995 album "Nobody Else" was launched, the release of Sure, their first single from the album, achieved yet another number one on the UK Charts. But it was not until their second release from that album that they would experience what would become their biggest hit single, "Back for Good", which reached number one in 31 countries around the globe and to date has been covered 89 times the world over[citation needed]. It was also their first and only US hit, where it reached the Top 10. The song was initially unveiled for the first time via live performance whilst at the 1995 Brit Awards, and based on rave reviews and the reception of that performance alone, the record pre-sold more records than expected and forced an earlier release date. The album was also noted for its cover which was a parody of the cover of The Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" cover sleeve. In July 1995, Williams' drug abuse had escalated to a near drug overdose the night before the group was scheduled to perform at the MTV Europe Music Awards. According to the documentary 'For the Record', Williams was unhappy with his musical ideas not being taken seriously by Barlow and Martin-Smith, because his desires to explore more hip hop and rap genre conflicted with Barlow's ballads. He explained in interviews that he had given up trying to offer creative input and merely did as he was told. As well as the friction with Barlow, Orange had problems with Williams' increasingly belligerent behaviour and his habit of missing rehearsals. He and Barlow confronted Martin-Smith about the internal conflict, because they did not want him dropping out while touring and before they planned to explore America, which never came to pass. During the last rehearsal where all five were together, they confronted Williams about his attitude and stated they wanted to do the tour without him. Williams agreed to quit the band and left; it would be the last time for twelve years that they were all together. Shortly afterwards, he was photographed by the press partying with British band "Oasis" at Glastonbury. Following his departure, he became the subject of talk shows and newspapers as he acknowledged his plans to become a solo singer, and he was spotted partying with George Michael in France. However, a clause in his contract with Take That prohibited him from releasing any material until after the group was officially dissolved, and he was later sued by Martin-Smith and forced to pay $200,000 in commission. Undaunted by the loss, Take That continued to promote "Nobody Else" as a four piece, scoring a further hit single with "Never Forget" (subsequently released as a single in a Jim Steinman remix version) and completing the "Nobody Else Tour" in July 1995. On 13 February 1996, which coincidentally was Williams' 22nd birthday, Take That formally announced that they were disbanding. This was followed by the "Greatest Hits" compilation in 1996, which contained a new recording, a cover of The Bee Gees "How Deep Is Your Love". The single went on to become what was to be the band's final U.K. number one until their 2006 comeback a decade later. Take That gave their final performance in April 1996 at Amsterdam. On 14 November 2005, "Never Forget - The Ultimate Collection", a new compilation of their hit singles including a new previously unreleased song, also made the top end of the UK charts. The new song "Today I've Lost You" (recorded in September 2005) was originally written as the follow up to "Back for Good" but was never recorded. On 16 November 2005, the group got back together for the ITV documentary "TAKE THAT: For The Record", in which they aired their views over the split and what they had been up to during the last 10 years. On 25 November 2005, there was an official press conference by the band announcing that the post Robbie Williams line-up were going to tour in 2006. The tour, entitled "Ultimate Tour", ran from April to June 2006. The tour featured a guest appearance by British soul singer Beverley Knight, who replaced Lulu's vocals on the song "Relight My Fire"; although Lulu did appear during the stadium shows on "Relight My Fire" and "Never Forget". The American female ensemble Pussycat Dolls supported the group at their Dublin concert, and the Sugababes supported the group on the final five dates of the stadium leg. On 9 May 2006, Take That came back to the recorded music scene after more than ten years, signing with Polydor Records in a deal reportedly worth 3 million pounds. The band's comeback album "Beautiful World" entered the UK album chart at no.1 and, as of June 2009, has sold over 2.6 million copies in the U.K. It is currently the 35th best selling album in UK music history. Unlike the band's earlier works, where the majority of their material was written by Gary Barlow, all songs are co-written by the band members. The come-back single Patience was released on 20 November 2006, with a special event launching it on 5 November (Bonfire Night). On 26 November Patience hit number 1 in the UK in its second week of chart entry making it the group's 9th No.1. The video for "Shine", the follow-up to "Patience" was premiered on 25 January 2007 on Channel 4, ahead of its release on 26 February 2007. The band's success continued on 14 February 2007 when Take That performed live at the BRIT Awards ceremony at Earl's Court. Their single "Patience" won the Best British Single category. The third single taken from "Beautiful World" was "I'd Wait For Life", released on 18 June 2007 in the UK. However the single only reached 17 in the UK Singles Chart, falling out of the top 40 the following week. This is thought to be due to lack of promotion, as the band decided to take a pre-tour break rather than do any promotion for the single. During 2007, Take That also wrote a song for the motion picture "Stardust" titled "Rule the World" which reached number 2 in the UK charts and went on to be the 5th biggest selling single of 2007. Meanwhile "Beautiful World" the album was the fourth biggest selling album of 2007. It was announced at the start of 2007 that Take That signed a record deal with American label Interscope, and would also release their album in Canada. Starting on 11 October 2007, Take That began their "Beautiful World Tour" 2007 in Belfast. The tour included 49 shows throughout Europe and the UK and ended in Manchester on 23 December 2007. The band received four nominations for the 2008 BRIT Awards. Nominated for Best British Group, Best British Single ("Shine"), Best British Album ("Beautiful World") and Best Live Act, taking home the Best Live Act and the Best British Single awards. The first single "Greatest Day" from the album "The Circus" made its radio premiere on 13 October, 2008 and it was released 24 November. It debuted at Number 1 in the UK Singles Chart on 30 November 2008. An album launch "Party for The Circus" was held in Paris on the 2nd December. "The Circus" was released in the UK on 1 December 2008, also debuting at Number 1 and remaining there for 2 weeks (to date). On 28 October 2008, on the Radio 1 Chris Moyles show, it was announced that Take That would be touring again in June/July 2009, covering England, Scotland and Wales. Tickets for the "Take That Present: The Circus Live" tour went on sale at 09:00 BST on 31 October. The promoters, SJM, have said that the band's tour is "the fastest selling in UK history". On 22 May 2008, Barlow and Donald attended the 2008 Ivor Novello Awards where Take That won the award for 'Most Performed Work' with their single "Shine". Take That won the Sony Ericsson 'Tour Of The Year' award at the Vodafone music awards on 18 September 2008. They were unable to attend as they were in LA finishing off their new album, "The Circus". They did send a video link message, which was shown at the awards. On November 22 2008, Take That appeared on TV show "The X Factor" where the finalists performed some of their greatest hits. The band also performed on 'Children in Need' 2008, singing their new single "Greatest Day", before donating £250,000 to the charity from their Marks and Spencers fee. The band were voted the 'Greatest Boyband Of All Time' on Onepoll.com, reflecting their ongoing marketability and success in the Pop arena, even after two decades. The band were nominated for one Brit Award in the category "Best Group" and performed Greatest Day at the 2009 Brit Award ceremony. The second single, "Up All Night" from the album "The Circus" was released on 2 March 2009, and peaked at #14 on the UK Singles Chart, despite heavy airplay. In Germany and Australia, "The Garden" was released as the second single instead. Their latest video for the 3rd single from the album, "Said It All" premiered on GMTV on 8 May 2009 and was released on 15 June 2009. It features all four band members dressed up as vintage circus clowns, which ties in with their forthcoming "Take That Present: The Circus Live" tour. On 7 May 2009, Take That's official website confirmed that the next single from "The Circus" would be "Said It All" which was released on 15 June 2009, peaking at #9 on the UK Singles chart. Take That started their "The Circus Live" tour at the Stadium of Light on June the 5th 2009 in Sunderland and ended their tour at the Wembley Stadium in London on the 5th of July 2009, which over 80,000 people attended. This tour quickly became the fastest-selling of all time, breaking all records by selling all of their 650,000 tickets in less than four and a half hours. In November 2009, Take That will release their first live album, "The Greatest Day - Take That Present: The Circus Live". Barlow also announced that the band are currently working on a new album through Autumn 2009 in the United States, set for release in 2010.

Backstreet Boys - The one
Vezi mai multe video din Muzica BACKSTREET BOYS - The One [3'56] The Backstreet Boys are a Grammy-nominated American vocal group. They were launched by boy band producer Lou Pearlman, and have been together since April 20, 1993. They have 13 Top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 and have sold over 120 million albums worldwide, making them one of the biggest selling artists of all time, and best selling boy band/vocal group of all time. According to US Billboard 200 making the boyband the first group since Sade to have their first seven albums reach top 10 on the chart. Their earlier songs still remain very popular among younger audiences. By their return in 2005 their sound had changed, incorporating only live instruments (some of which they play) and a more guitar and piano driven pop-rock sound. After the 2005-2006 tour, original member Kevin Richardson left the group on June 23, 2006, to start a family, but the four-piece refused to rule out a possible return for the singer. The now four-member group consists of Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell and A. J. McLean. The quartet has since released two albums, the most recent on October 6, 2009, titled "This Is Us", which went back to pop music, although is still considerably different from their classic sound, with "This Is Us" being more R&B. Lou Pearlman, who had been inspired by "New Kids on the Block" in 1989, decided to create his own clean-cut boy band. After newspaper advertisements and auditions from June 1992 to early 1993, he recruited A. J. McLean in August 1992, Nick Carter in October, and Howie Dorough in December, who eventually met each other in several auditions and became friends. Following the departure of three previous members, Burk Parsons (pursued a career in ministry), Sam Licata (later performing as 'Phoenix Stone') and Charles Edwards, Kevin Richardson came on board in March 1993. He met the other guys through a co-worker, and the four decided to form a group, naming themselves after an Orlando flea market. The group took its final member on April 9, 1993, when Brian Littrell, Richardson's cousin, joined the group after a phone audition. Pearlman had spent around $3.5 million of fraudulently obtained money (he has been convicted of operating a Ponzi scheme during this time frame) on his search to form the group, and then spent more to launch their career. They officially became a group on April 19, 1993. Afterward Pearlman called on Bob Curiano to write and produce for the Backstreet Boys. Their first two songs recorded were "Lover Boy", written and produced by Curiano, and "Get Ready", a cover tune. The hit, 'Lover Boy' was inspired by Ana Legen, Bob Curiano's, first teenage crush. Their first concert, on July 8, 1993, was performed for 3,000 teenagers at SeaWorld in Orlando, Florida. Pearlman booked them at grade-school assemblies and shopping malls, and assigned management duties to Johnny Wright and Donna Wright, who had worked with "New Kids on the Block". Recording for their debut album officially began in the fall of 1994 and finished a few weeks prior to their European album's release in 1996. In the first few months of recording for Jive Records they worked in mainly Florida studios. They notably recorded during these late months of 1994, the ballad "I'll Never Find Someone Like You" and the track "Every Time I Close My Eyes" with Eric Foster White, as well some other songs. By mis-communication, "I'll Never Find Someone Like You" was given to "Keith Martin" after they recorded it and released as a single in February 1995, barring them copyrighting their version. In June 1995, they were sent to Stockholm, Sweden for a week to record at Cheiron Studios with producers Denniz Pop and Max Martin. Out of the recording sessions came "We've Got It Goin' On", "Quit Playing Games(With My Heart)", and "I Wanna Be With You". The first single chosen to be released was "We've Got It Goin' On" released to radio in late August 1995. The song was a minor success, which resulted in promotion being shifted to Europe. The single did well on several European charts, which sent them on a summer tour there. They finished recording in April 1996 and filmed their second music video, "Get Down(You're The One For Me)" in Germany as well. On May 6, 1996, their debut was internationally, except in the USA and Canada. European popularity grew, and the Backstreet Boys kicked off 1996 being voted the No. 1 international group by TV viewers in Germany - "I'll Never Break Your Heart" went gold there and hit No. 1 in Austria. The group earned their first platinum record in Germany and toured Asia and Canada. They became one of the most successful debut artists in the world. Jive Records and Pearlman decided to bring the boys back to their home country. They began recording their second album in January 1997, "Backstreet's Back", releasing "Quit Playing Games With My Heart" in June. They also recorded the song, "If You Stay", for the Booty Call soundtrack in January 1997. Coinciding with the release of their second international album, the band released a self-titled album in the US which collected songs from both international albums. They hit big on the U.S. charts and debuted at No .1 in Germany, Norway, Switzerland, Finland and Austria. The two albums sold more than 28 million copies worldwide (14 million copies in the U.S.) In December 1997, the band embarked on a 60-city, 20-country tour. In September 1998 the group began work on their next album. Work on "Millennium" began in September 1998, with recording taking place from October 3, 1998 to March 1, 1999 in multiple cities. A sneak preview of the tracks "The One", "Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely", and "I Need You Tonight" was released on November 17, 1998 on the "A Night Out" with the Backstreet Boys concert video, as well as on the "All I Have To Give" U.S. single in December 1998. Preceded by the worldwide hit single "I Want It That Way", anticipation for "Millennium" was high. On May 18, 1999, "Millennium" was released. The day of the album's release, the Backstreet Boys made a heavily publicized appearance on MTV's Total Request Live. "Millennium" entered the Billboard 200 at #1, where it remained for 10 non-consecutive weeks. It sold 1,134,000 copies in its first week of release, breaking the previous Nielsen SoundScan record held by Garth Brooks for single-week record sales. "Millennium" sold nearly 500,000 copies in the U.S. on its first day alone, setting a record for first-day sales. This record was subsequently overtaken in 2000 by Britney Spears, and then again by 'N Sync with "No Strings Attached". Four singles were released from "Millennium": "I Want It That Way", "Larger Than Life", "Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely", and "The One". "Millennium" became the best-selling album of 1999 in the U.S., selling 9,445,732 albums. "Millennium" remained on the Billboard chart for 93 weeks, eventually selling over 12 million copies in the United States and being certified 13 times platinum. As of the end of December 2008, the album stands as the fourth best selling album in the US of the SoundScan era. In 2003 it was also reported as being the fourth biggest seller for Music Club sales in the US over the past 14 years with sales of 1.59 million. In Canada, the album is seventh biggest selling album since 1995 in the Canadian Soundscan sales era up to end of December 2007. The album has sold over 40 million copies worldwide. Impressed by the success of the Backstreet Boys, Sony BMG, which already owned 20 percent of Jive's parent company, purchased the remainder for $3 billion, the most ever paid for an independent record company. In the meantime, The Firm negotiated tens of millions of dollars in advance payments for recordings and performances from Jive and the concert promoter Clear Channel. Also by the end of 1999, the Backstreet Boys faced new problems declaring their current Jive contract null and void, soon striking one of the largest record deals ever valued at $60 million with Jive. In November 2000, the group released a new album, "Black & Blue", with the idea of the title of the album coming from Brian as the boys were in Los Angeles for a photoshoot. To promote the release of "Black & Blue", the boys traveled around the world in 100 hours to Sweden, Japan, Australia, South Africa, Brazil, and the US; 55 of the hours were spent traveling and 45 were spent making public appearances. The album debuted with 1.9 million units sold in the first week in America, making the band the first ever artist to have two albums sell a million or more copies in the first week. "Black & Blue" had sold more than five million copies worldwide in its initial week, setting a new first-week record in international sales. Globally, "Black & Blue" — whose 13-song selection features six songs co-written by members of the group, including two written by all five Backstreet Boys — achieved platinum status in over 30 countries and gold certification in 10 regions around the world during its first week of release. In the first week of release, "Black & Blue"'s first single "Shape of My Heart" was played on 170 out of 171 of the Top 40 stations in the U.S. Meanwhile overseas, the song immediately jumped into the Top Five in Sweden (#1), Norway (#1), Canada (#1), Germany (#1), Switzerland (#1), Austria and Holland (#1). The album has been estimated as selling 24 million albums worldwide. Towards the end of 2000, the album's second single "The Call" made the Top 10 in the UK and the third single "More Than That" made the Top 20. In 2001, the Backstreet Boys kicked off the first leg of their "The Black & Blue Tour", in which they were to perform on five continents. The tour also had extremely expensive production costs. The tour was featured on a CBS TV special, "The Backstreet Boys: Larger Than Life". To coincide with the special, TV Guide issued six different covers of the boys: five individual shots and one group photo. The second leg of "The Black & Blue Tour" was put on hold when it was reported that A.J. McLean had checked himself into rehab to battle alcoholism, cocaine addiction and depression after Richardson had held an intervention for him at a Boston hotel. The tour was postponed until September. In the September 11, 2001 attacks, a Backstreet Boys crew member, Daniel Lee, was killed. He had been using time off in the tour schedule to travel from Boston to Los Angeles to be with his pregnant wife. The death caused the cancellation of the band's plans for overseas tours. Despite the attacks in New York that day, the Backstreet Boys went ahead with a planned concert that night in Toronto. They released a video about them going "Around The World". This video was for celebrating Black and Blue You can see the clips posted here on Youtube. Also, in 2001, the Backstreet Boys performed the American national anthem, in front of an audience at the Super Bowl XXXV at the Raymond James Stadium, Tampa, Florida. In 2002, the band expressed a strong desire to leave their management company, The Firm. Nick Carter chose to remain with The Firm to manage his solo career. It became apparent that this was reason for their lack of resistance to the Backstreet Boys moving on and this unexpected move forced the band to take a break. Starved for a blockbuster album release, Jive, according to industry observers, had no choice but to bank on releasing Carter's solo album by the end of the year, ahead of the next Backstreet Boys' album, which was due in early 2003. In 2002, Nick Carter's solo album "Now or Never" was released. The album peaked at #17 on the Billboard 200 and was certified Gold. The relationship with Jive worsened when the Backstreet Boys filed a $75–100 million lawsuit against Zomba Music Group (Jive's parent company) claiming breach of contract. The group stated the label promoted Nick Carter's solo album "Now or Never" at the expense of the group who wanted to promote their fourth album. According to the suit, in November 1999, the Backstreet Boys revised their 1994 contract and committed to releasing two further albums for Zomba. In exchange for delivering them on time as part of a predetermined schedule, the group would receive multiple non-returnable payments that would serve as advances against future royalties. In November 2002, Brian's wife Leighanne gave birth to the couple's first child, Baylee Thomas Wylee Littrell. In December 2003, A.J. McLean appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show where he talked for the first time in public about his addiction to alcohol and drugs, and his struggles rising to fame. The rest of the band surprised him by arriving in person to give him support, marking the first time the Backstreet Boys had appeared together in public in almost two years. The band began to reform and reconcile their differences to start recording a comeback album. In 2004, the Backstreet Boys started performing together to promote their return to the music scene. In September they kicked-off a small Asian tour, visiting Beijing, Shanghai, Tokyo and Manila. Based on the success of this tour, they announced a Mexican tour, visiting Mexico City and Monterrey and performing all new material. Renewed interest grew with the announcement of airing an hour-long televised documentary of the Backstreet Boys on VH1's 'Behind The Music'. After a three-year hiatus, their single, "Incomplete", was released to radio stations on March 28, 2005. The album is named after a song on the album which mourns the loss of Kevin Richardson's father. The drastic style change drew negative criticism from magazines such as Rolling Stone, which gave the album one star. On June 14, 2005, the Backstreet Boys released their comeback album "Never Gone", which they spent more than a year recording. The album debuted at #3 on the U.S. chart with first week sales of 291,000 copies, and #1 debuts in Japan, Pakistan, Germany, India, Chile, Brazil and South Korea. In the same year, Brian Littrell's song "In Christ Alone" charted at #1 on the US Christian Charts. The Backstreet Boys began the first leg of their "The Never Gone Tour" in July in West Palm Beach, Florida. It was their first Australian tour. "Never Gone" was certified platinum in the US and four singles were released from the album. Their first single was "Incomplete", the second single was "Just Want You to Know", and the third singles were "Crawling Back to You" for the US and "I Still..." internationally. "Never Gone" has sold approximately 10 million copies worldwide. Backstreet Boys' second single "Just Want You to Know" hit the top 10 in the UK, but was not as successful in the United States. It was one of the group's weakest performing U.S. singles, only peaking at #70 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The third international single "I Still..." debuted at #1 on the Japan International Singles Chart with over 200,000 copies sold, making the first ever international single to enter at #1 on the chart in Japanese history. The third US single, "Crawling Back to You" peaked at #15 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary charts. In June 2006, Richardson left the Backstreet Boys to pursue other interests and "move on with the next chapter of his life". The Backstreet Boys' sixth album includes various music styles, combining their earlier mid-90s dance-pop sound with their newer guitar driven pop/rock sound. "Unbreakable", was officially launched on October 30, 2007. It was the group's follow-up to 2005's Never Gone and is the first effort since Richardson's departure. On July 25, 2007, the first single was confirmed as "Inconsolable", a piano-driven power ballad similar to Never Gone's "Incomplete". It reached #21 on the US Adult Contemporary Charts, but managed only #86 on the Billboard Hot 100. However, it performed well internationally, debuting #1 in Japan and staying there for another week. "Helpless When She Smiles" was the next single to be released from "Unbreakable". It only managed to reach #52 in the US Adult Contemporary charts and in turn failed to reach the Billboard Hot 100 charts. While the album had received positive reviews, it did not perform as well as its predecessor, "Never Gone". "Unbreakable" opened at #7 on The Billboard 200, selling 81,000 copies in its first week of release. Two weeks after its debut, the album dropped out of the top 100. The group went on a 45 date World tour to promote "Unbreakable" in Tokyo, Japan on February 16, 2008. Dates were confirmed for the tour being titled the "Unbreakable Tour" in Australia, Japan, Mexico, UK, Europe, Asia, Canada and The United States. The group kicked off their North American tour on July 29, 2008 in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada and was originally scheduled to wrap up in Redmond, WA, USA on September 6. They recorded a tour DVD in London's The O2 Arena which can be seen on YouTube, but has yet to be released. Richardson rejoined the rest of the band in Los Angeles at the Palladium in Hollywood on November 23, 2008 for the last North American stop of the "Unbreakable Tour". The group has been working on a new album due for release on October 6, 2009 and are confirmed to be working with Max Martin, Lady Gaga, OneRepublic singer Ryan Tedder, RedOne, Ne-Yo, Brian Kennedy, Jazze Pha, Pitbull, Claude Kelly, Jim Jonsin, Eddie Galan, T-Pain, Rami Yacoub, Kristian Lundin, many others. In an interview with 'Extra' TV the Backstreet Boys confirmed the title of their seventh album to be "This Is Us". The Backstreet Boys formally announced the dates for the European leg of the new tour for the album. The tour will start on October 30. The first single off their new album was released on July 23 under the name "Straight Through My Heart", and was released to radio airwaves on August 17, with the music video following on August 27. There are 11 confirmed songs on the album. The album was released on September 30 in Japan and Oct 6 in USA and Canada. The album reached #2 on iTunes on its release date in USA and Canada and received positive reviews. The promotion of the CD was brought to a halt by the announcement that member Brian Littrell was diagnosed with the H1N1 virus on Oct 5th. During their promo-tour in Japan group shot music video for new single "Bigger". They appeared on the British reality show, 'The X Factor' on November 1, 2009. In October 1998, the band received the "keys to the city" from the mayor of Orlando in honor of the tornado relief concert the group headlined in March that raised over $250,000. On February 17, 1999, the Backstreet Boys received their first Diamond award from the RIAA for shipment of 10 million copies of their self-titled album.
